Writing Prompt: Fictionalizing Your Earliest Memory

Everyone at some point in his or her life is asked the question, what's your earliest memory? It's one of those annoying questions that someone (usually your mother) asks when no one else can think of anything to talk about.

As annoying as that question is, I want you to think about it now.

Now take that memory, maybe dress it up a little bit, and put it into a story. Not as a memory, but as action in the story.

Ulterior motive

Finding inspiration for a story is often a problem. (That's kind of the reason I even put these writing prompts together.) You probably have more in your past to work with than you thought.

I hope this exercise takes you down memory lane a little bit. Recognize that any of those little memories you think about as you burrow into your past could be the core around which a story can be built.
